What is Sanctuary
I have a dream

You don't have to be famous to dream big dreams, and I have a dream that I'm calling Sanctuary.

In my dream I have a place for all of those families of people with mental illness. Not a hotel exactly and not really a spa, but a safe place to come and relax. A place where insanity is understood and where the unbelievable is believed.

At one point I was thinking I needed a hotel or some huge building, but as I was dreaming, the building got smaller.

I don't need to wait until I have room for 100 people to start a sanctuary. If I can help one or two at a time, I can serve a hundred people in time, and I can do it in the comfort of my home.

My dream is to open the house to support groups as a meeting place and as a place for members to come to "get away from it all" during the day.

I have a fairly substantial reading library that might be helpful--I recommend the Boundaries books by Cloud and Townsend and I have three different ones. Members could come over and pick out a book to borrow or sit out back by the pond and stare into the water--I know that peace and quiet are valuable and rare.
So what are the plans?

Right now we have just purchased a home for our family and are doing some remodeling to make it more comfortable and livable. There are small changes and adjustments to be made, but we are doing it slowly as we can afford to do it.

We had to redo a lot of plumbing because pipes burst over the winter in the house--it was unheated and the water was left on too long.

The downstairs toilet had a nice view of the back yard--not exactly private. We put up a room divider to separate the bathroom from the utility room. It makes the bathroom a bit dark, but we have lights for that.

It is not a perfect design--we hope to rearrange things at some point, but we don't have the money or the time to do all of the plumbing involved.

We have a front room where the books are located that could serve as a library and meeting room and that is where I am currently focusing most of my attention.

It will all come together soon enough. I just have to keep plugging away to move forward. It takes time, but we have time.
